Charles William Brown, age 97, of Springfield, IL, passed away on Tuesday, August, 30, 2016 at 1:45 p.m. at Illinois Veteran’s Home in Quincy, IL.  A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Hillsboro, IL with The Very Rev. James L. Neuman, V.F., Pastor of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Hillsboro, IL, officiating.  Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery in Hillsboro, IL.  Visitation will be held on Friday, September 2, 2016 from 4p.m. to 7p.m. at Bisch Funeral Home West in Springfield, IL and on Saturday, September 3, 2016 from 10a.m. to 11a.m. at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro, IL.    Military rites will be accorded at graveside.

Mr. Brown was born to the late Charles Henry and Frances Ann (Fuchs) Brown on October 16, 1918 in Springfield, IL.  He married Anna Nadine Durbin on April 9, 1947 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Hillsboro, IL.  She survives in Springfield, IL.  Mr. Brown served from 1942-1945 in the Army during World War II as a member of the Wildcat Company and served three of those years in the Philippines. Mr. Brown worked for American Radiator in Litchfield, IL; farmed in the Butler, IL area and served as a substitute mail carrier for 23 years in the Hillsboro and Butler, IL post offices.  He had resided in the Hillsboro and Butler, IL area before moving to Springfield, IL in 1997 and then moving to the Illinois Veteran’s Home in Quincy, IL in 2011.  Mr. Brown was a member of Springfield Council 364 Knights of Columbus; American Legion Post #425 of Irving, IL; Kershaw Harmer VFW Post #1306 of Taylor Springs, IL; past Grand Knight of Hillsboro Knights of Columbus, where he also served as Financial Secretary for several years; and past President and Secretary of Calico Twirlers Square Dance Club

Along with his wife, Mr. Brown is survived by his children, Charles Wayne (wife Sharon) Brown of Hudson, FL; Robert Joseph (wife Barb) Brown of Staunton, IL; and Barbara Ann (husband Tom) Esela of Springfield, IL; five Grandchildren, Brian Lawrence (wife Tara) Brown; Monica Lynn (husband Chris) Wieneke; Barclay Joseph (wife Audra) Brown; Cora Beth Esela; and Ryan Joseph Brown; eight Great-Grandchildren; a sister, Laurie Dreher of St. Louis, MO; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his brothers, Delbert Brown; Walter Brown; Edgar Brown; Leo Brown; and his sisters, Marie Finch, Clara Mae Spinner; and two sisters in infancy.

Memorials are suggested to St. Agnes Catholic School in Springfield, IL.
