Alex Donald "Red" Smith

Alex Donald "Red" Smith, age 76, of Hillsboro, IL, passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2015 at 5:00 a.m. at St. John's Hospital, Springfield IL. Cremation rites were accorded and no services are planned.

Mr. Smith was born on February 6, 1939 at Hillsboro IL to the late Alex and Melba (Oden) Smith. He was a graduate of Hillsboro High School in 1957. He had worked as a tool grinder at Echlin at Litchfield IL and also had worked at the family gas station until it closed in 1976.  He loved to ride motorcycles,  Hillsboro was his home for his entire lifetime.

He was married to Judy Calame and they later divorded. His marriage to Rhea Hemkin took place in 1977 at Hillsboro IL.  She survives at Hillsboro IL along with two children, Mike (wife Jane) Smith, Schram City IL, Sherry Lassiter, Irving, IL; step-children, Sharon Gilmer, Boise City, LA, Douglas Williams, Mt. Sterling, IL; five grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and one step-great grandchild. He was preceded by one step-grandchild.
